Reduce and pool training costs with digital training

A teaching team created a training programme for future doctors from different schools who wanted to spread the cost of creating the tool. A game concept based on clinical reasoning. The goal was to offer learners a shared tool to simulate a consultation with a patient to make a diagnosis. The students investigate different symptoms the patient presents and develop their diagnosis.

The game incorporates video, photo and text resources to make it as detailed as possible. The exercise ends with a written summary of the student’s final diagnosis. The results are then available to the teachers who can grade it and offer feedback to the student. Making the training module available online allows economies of scale as it can be used time and time again, indefinitely.

Digitising the content allowed various schools and students to benefit from the interactive training, therefore allowing schools to share the investment and save money. Beyond the immersive aspect of the concept, it is above all a way to evaluate each student more accurately and fairly using the same framework. It also turns out that given the number of students who are trained each year, offering them a chance to be assessed using this tool is a wise, controlled investment, with only the minimum contribution from the teaching team necessary.
